Fringelog 2007: The Boycott
I’m actually writing this post in 2009 to explain why there’s not fringelog posts for 2007. The truth is, I largely boycotted the Fringe this year. The switchover to online/preorder ticketing was handled extremely poorly and I was pretty annoyed at it.
I am still, in fact, pretty annoyed at some of the changes that have resulted from this shift. I still disagree with the $2 surcharge added on to every ticket purchase (I feel it violates the principle of the Fringe that buyers should be able to pay for a ticket for which the entire value goes to the artist).
But more than that, they removed front-of-house ticketing and scattered a handful of ticket booths around the fringe in difficult to see/find places. They fixed this in the next year by moving the ticket booths back to front-of-house of the main venues as they should have in the first place.
I did go to a couple of plays this year, but I don’t recall what they were.
